Cat sitting

Cat sitting in Liverpool, in your cat’s own home

Cat sitting is what I do most. I visit your cat at home while you are away, keep everything exactly as it was when you left, and send you a message and a photo after every visit.

I am Catie. I have looked after cats across Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens for over sixteen years, on my own, with no staff and no agency. The person who comes to your consultation is the person who comes to every visit.

Why cats do better at home

Cats are territorial. Their sense of security comes from the place as much as the people — the smell of their own home, the spot they sleep in, the route they patrol, the sounds they know.

Take that away and you take away the thing that was keeping them calm. Some cats manage it. Plenty do not, and their owners only find out when they come home to a cat that has stopped eating or stopped coming out.

Cat sitting keeps all of it. Your cat stays where it lives. I come to them.

What happens at every visit

Feeding

I follow your routine exactly — wet, dry, raw, prescription, or a mix of them. Same food, same bowls, same times. Fresh water topped up every visit.

Litter trays

Cleaned and refreshed at every visit, without exception. Cats are clean animals, and a dirty tray is one of the quickest ways to end up with a house-soiling problem you are still fixing weeks later.

Time with your cat

Some cats want attention the moment I am through the door. They want playing with, stroking, and somebody to sit near. Others want to watch me from the top of the stairs and come down in their own time.

I let the cat decide. I will not drag a nervous cat out from under a bed so I can say I saw it.

Health and behaviour checks

I watch how your cat is eating, drinking, moving and behaving. If something looks off — appetite dropped, hiding more than usual, changes in the litter tray, any sign of discomfort — I tell you straight away rather than waiting to see if it settles.

Medication

I give tablets, liquid medication, eye drops and injections, including insulin for diabetic cats. Insulin injection visits are £17 per visit and any other medication is £5 per visit on top of the visit. We go through the exact routine at your free consultation so nothing is left to guesswork.

Photos and updates

You get a message and a photo after every visit. You will know your cat has been seen, fed and is settled, without having to ask.

Your home

I bring the post in, draw curtains, alternate a light, and put the bins out if it falls while you are away. An empty house looks less empty.

Cats I look after most

Nervous and timid cats

The ones who hide from visitors. I do not force it, and I do not rush. Most of them come round within a few visits, and some of my longest-standing customers started with a cat who would not come out at all.

Older cats

Set in their routines, more sensitive to change, and more likely to have something going on that needs watching. Kidney disease, thyroid problems and arthritis all need the routine kept exactly as it is.

Cats on medication

Twice-daily tablets, eye drops, insulin injections. Cats who cannot go to a cattery easily and cannot miss a dose.

Multi-cat households

Where getting three cats into carriers and across the city is a bad morning for everyone. Seeing them all at home is simpler and calmer.

Cats with outdoor access

Who would spend an entire cattery stay shut indoors, losing the part of the day they like most.

What people say

Catie has been taken care of our two cats when we are away for 3 years. She is so kind, reliable and caring! One of our cat Mia is very shy and timid. Catie always respects her personality and now Mia will not be hiding anymore when she comes to our house! Our other cat Kai Kai and Catie became best friends immediately 😃 Would recommend Catie for every pet owner!

Catie is the most amazing and caring person - she takes the best care of our cat when we go away, keeps us updated, spends time with her for cuddles and does everything we need. Couldn't recommend her more :)

Rachel Hart-PhillipsGoogle review

Catie provides the highest quality of service and is totally professional and trustworthy. We asked Catie to care for our cats whilst we were away for four days on holiday. Catie was totally reliable and visited twice a day at the times she indicated. We were also updated on each visit on the welfare of our cats which was reassuring. When we returned home our cats were totally relaxed and happy which was due to Catie's superb love of animals. We would highly recommend Catie's service and we have already booked Catie to look after our cats in April. Catie even put our bin out without our asking.

Cat sitting or a cattery?

A cattery is not the wrong answer for every cat, and I will say so if I think your cat would be fine in one. But for most cats, staying at home is less disruptive, and for nervous cats, older cats and multi-cat homes it is not close.

Questions about cat sitting

How often should my cat be visited?

Once a day suits most cats for short trips. Twice a day is better for cats on medication, cats who eat little and often, kittens, and any cat who is anxious on their own. We work it out at the consultation.

Can you look after my cat for two weeks?

Yes. Most of my cat sitting is holiday cover, and I have customers I have looked after every summer for years. Book early for school holidays and Christmas.

What if my cat gets ill while I am away?

I contact you straight away and I will take your cat to your vet if it needs it. I ask for your vet’s details and your permission in writing at the consultation, so there is no delay if it ever happens.

Do you look after cats with special diets?

Yes. Prescription, raw, wet, dry, or a specific combination at specific times. Tell me the routine and I follow it.

How do you get in?

I collect a key at your free consultation, at no charge. Keys are labelled with no name or address on them.

Which areas do you cover?

Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens. Full list of postcodes.
