Elderly dog care
Elderly dog care visits in Liverpool
For dogs who no longer want a walk, but should not spend the day on their own.

What an old dog actually needs
There comes a point where the walk stops being the good bit. The legs go, or the hips, or the hearing, and a brisk half hour around the park is no longer a treat.
What does not change is that they still should not be on their own all day. Old dogs get stiff lying in one position. They need out more often, not less. Many are on medication. And a lot of them get anxious in a way they never used to.
So the visit changes shape. Less distance, more sitting down. That is the whole idea.
What a visit looks like
Out to the garden
More often than a younger dog needs, and without making them wait.
A stroll, if they want one
Sometimes it is to the end of the road and back. Sometimes it is not today. I take my lead from the dog, not from the clock.
Medication
Tablets for arthritis, heart, thyroid or kidneys, given properly and on time. See medication visits for the surcharge.
Company
Sitting with them. Old dogs sleep a lot and mostly what they want is somebody in the room while they do it.
Comfort
Water within reach. Bedding straightened. A dog who has got itself stuck helped up. Small things that make a long afternoon better.
Watching them
This is the part that matters most. I see your dog regularly, so I notice changes you might not — stiffer than last week, drinking more, eating less, struggling with a step they managed on Monday. I tell you. It is often the difference between a vet visit now and a vet visit too late.

Why one person matters here
An old dog with fading sight and hearing does not want a different face every week. They want the same person, the same smell, the same voice, arriving at roughly the same time.
I work alone. There is no rota and no cover team. That is a limitation in some ways, and for this it is the whole point.
What people say
Catie is brilliant. She regularly looks after our 2 elderly cats. She is super reliable, always responds to messages and sends us pictures to let us know how they are doing while we are away. Would recommend her to anyone.
Catie took care of my fifteen year old cat Darby over Christmas and New Year. I have never left him with a pet sitter before so I was really worried about him. Catie was great, she took great care of him and sent me pictures and updates so that I could see that he was ok. Her prices are reasonable and well worth the peace of mind. I will not hesitate to use her service again.
Questions about elderly dog care
My dog is incontinent. Is that a problem?
No. I clean up, I change bedding, and I do not make anybody feel bad about it. It is very common in old dogs.
My dog has dementia and gets confused with strangers.
Then we do the consultation slowly and I come more than once before you leave them with me. Canine dementia is more common than people expect and familiarity is most of the answer.
Can you help my dog up and down stairs?
Small and medium dogs, yes. Large breeds depend on the dog and on your house — we work it out at the consultation, honestly.
What if something happens while you are there?
I contact you first and take your dog to your vet if it needs it. I take your vet’s details and written permission at the consultation. I am pet first aid trained.
Do you do overnights for old dogs?
Yes. For dogs who are unsettled at night, overnight house sitting is often kinder than visits.
