Cattery alternative

A cattery alternative in Liverpool: your cat stays home

If you are looking at catteries in Liverpool, there is a second option worth knowing about before you book one.

I visit your cat at home instead. Feeding, litter trays, medication, company and health checks, once or twice a day, for as long as you are away. No carrier, no car journey, no strange room. Your cat’s routine carries on almost as though you had not left.

Is it better to put a cat in a cattery or leave it at home?

For most cats, home is better. Cats bond to territory as much as to people, so a cattery removes the main thing keeping them settled — their own smells, their own sleeping spot, their own routine. Home cat sitting keeps all of that and brings the carer to them. A cattery is the better choice when a cat needs constant supervision, or when nobody can access the house.

When a cattery is the better choice

I would rather tell you this than win the booking.

A cattery is the right call if your cat needs eyes on it for most of the day — a cat recovering from surgery, or one whose condition can change quickly. It is also the answer if there is nobody who can let me into the house, or if the house itself is not somewhere a cat can be left safely between visits.

If that is your situation, say so at the consultation and I will tell you straight.

How much is a cattery for two weeks?

Catteries around Liverpool typically charge per cat per night, so a fortnight for one cat usually runs into three figures and a second cat adds most of that again. Home cat sitting is priced per visit rather than per night, and one visit covers up to two cats, so multi-cat households are usually where the gap is widest. Get a quote from both and compare like for like.

Who can look after my cat when I go on holiday?

Your options are a cattery, a friend or neighbour, or a professional cat sitter who comes to the house. A neighbour is free and fine for a weekend, but it is a real favour for two weeks and there is no cover if they are ill or away. A professional cat sitter is insured, DBS checked, comes every day without fail, and can give medication. That is what I do.

How home cat sitting works

  1. Free consultation

I come to your house, meet your cat, and go through the routine — food, tray, medication, where they hide, what they are like with strangers. You ask me anything you want. No obligation, no charge.

  2. Keys

I take a key at the consultation at no charge. Keys are labelled with no name and no address.

  3. Visits while you are away

Once or twice a day, whichever we agreed. Feeding, fresh water, trays, medication, time with your cat, health check, and a look round the house.

  4. A message and a photo, every visit

You will know your cat has been seen without having to ask.

What people say

Sunndays have taken care of my flat cats whenever I've gone away. For 9 years! Always friendly and as accommodating as possible. Understands pets personalities as one of mine is very timed. Never had issues or concerns. Always very friendly in messages but mostly takes great care of your babies and sends photos if your fretting. Once when I was in France there was a weather storm and they (in tier own time and money, which I obviously paid back) went out of their way to get Feliway diffusers to help calm the kitties and it made such a difference to my trip. Amazing … highly recommend 😻😻😻

Catie has always taken great care of my little cat Loki when we went away. Recently whilst we were away he became poorly and Catie went above and beyond showing compassion taking him to the vets and staying with him. Her kindness and compassion staying with our boy meant so much.

We always feel like our cats are in the safest hands with Catie. They are always happy when we return and we love that we can leave them in their own environment where they are content. Catie is really flexible and reliable and we would strongly recommend her pet sitting services. Laura and Paul

Common questions

Do you board cats at your house?

No. I do not board cats or dogs anywhere. I only look after animals in their own homes.

Is once a day enough?

For a healthy, settled adult cat on a short trip, usually yes. Twice a day is better for cats on medication, kittens, cats who graze rather than eat in one go, and cats who get anxious alone.

Do you need vaccination certificates?

No. That is a cattery requirement. Your cat never leaves the house, so there is no shared-air risk to manage.

What about the cat flap?

Your call. If your cat normally goes out, it carries on going out. If you would rather keep them in while you are away, I keep them in.

Which areas do you cover?

Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens. Full list of postcodes.
